Principal Announced for Good Shepherd Catholic Primary School, Springfield Lakes

Date: 01 February 2012

The new Catholic primary school to open at Springfield Lakes in 2013 has announced its foundation Principal.

Judith Seery will take up the position in April this year, to enrol students, oversee construction and prepare the school to open at the start of next year. From 2005 to 2011, she was Principal of St Anthony’s School, Alexandra Hills – one of the largest Catholic primary schools in south-east Queensland.

Ms Seery says she is looking forward to the task ahead.

“I am thrilled and honoured to be appointed as the first Principal of Good Shepherd Catholic Primary School here in Springfield Lakes,” she said.

“Starting up a new school is a big task, but I’m looking forward to working with our Parish Priest, Fr Mauro Conte, and the members of our Steering Committee and others in the community to make it all happen.

“I am dedicated to building a caring learning community where each student is known, respected and valued, embodying the school’s motto: Called by Name,” she said.

Ms Seery brings to the role extensive experience as a principal and school leader in New South Wales, the Northern Territory and Victoria, as well as Queensland. She holds qualifications in early childhood education, religious education and educational leadership.

Good Shepherd Catholic Primary School will be the second Catholic school in Springfield and the Parish of Our Lady of the Southern Cross, along with St Augustine’s College at Augustine Heights.

Good Shepherd will be a co-educational Catholic primary school, master-planned for students from Prep to Year 6. It will open with Prep to Year 3 in 2013, on a purpose-built campus in Grande Avenue at Springfield Lakes.

“There is very strong support for the new school from the community of Springfield Lakes, with a significant number of parents already making contact to enquire about a place for their child next year,” Ms Seery said.

“In the coming months, we will begin the enrolment process, with interviews and offers of places being made from the middle of this year.”

Interviews will take place at the school’s pre-opening office, at the Springfield Lakes shopping centre in Springfield Lakes Boulevard, which will open in April.

Enrolment information and application forms are available from the school’s website   www.goodshepherd.qld.edu.au  or by telephone on 3440 7941.
